Deuteronomy 26:10
And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O Lord, have given me. And you shall set it down before the Lord your God and worship before the Lord your God. Why do we tithe and give offering? In the bible, God's people offered up the first yield of their harvest. Today, we may give God the first day of the week, the first moments of our waking, or the first yield of our income. But God does not actually need anything from us. The reason we give offering is not because God needs it, but because we acknowledge our need for Him! We give to signify the laying down of our lives before our Lord and acknowledging that all we have comes from Him. Subsequently, our offering is more an acknowledgement that everything we have - not just the first yield - belongs to God. Therefore, we would like to encourage everyone to first strive to come to a place where they give freely out of the thankfulness of their hearts; to signify their devotion to Christ not just in wealth but in every aspect of their lives. |
